Christopher D. Lewis is a contemporary harpsichordist hailing from Rhiwbina, a small suburb of Cardiff, Wales, UK. In 2005 he moved to Montréal, in Quebec, Canada, to study modern harpsichord at McGill University under the expert guidance of Hank Knox & Luc Beauséjour. In 2009 Lewis became the first person in nearly 200 years to graduate from McGill with a degree in Modern Harpsichord Performance. His strongest interest as a harpsichordist is establishing the instrument as an important factor in both the performance and composition of contemporary music. The subject of Lewis’s baccalaureate thesis was the harpsichord’s prominent appearance in the music of the 20th Century, including an extensive section on its use in popular music. Currently residing in Toronto, Lewis happily continues his crusade to “promote the awareness and enjoyment of modern music for that most delightful instrument: the harpsichord!” He is almost finished on his doctorate, and is a Naxos recording artist.
